Fatal Illusions is an engaging, fast-paced read with a captivating storyline that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go.  Adam Blumer has skillfully weaved the threads of grace, mercy, and forgiveness into this compelling suspense novel.  Highly recommended!”

Mark Mynheir, homicide detective and author of The Night Watchman

“Adam Blumer tells a fast-paced story that weaves together a serial killer, a physically wounded pastor, and his spiritually wounded wife.  The twists and turns will keep readers guessing, and the idyllic setting will have non-Yoopers wondering when they’ll be able to pay a visit to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”

Rick Acker, author of Blood Brothers

“In Fatal Illusions, Adam Blumer has crafted a page turner with characters that capture the imagination and a gripping plot from the first paragraph to the final sentence. An awesome ride!”

Rosey Dow, Christy Award-winning author of Reaping the Whirlwind

“Magic in the hands of a diabolical madman proves deadly as he terrorizes a pastor’s family. Will their faith vanish when they need it most? Set against the backdrop of Lake Superior’s magnificent shores, Fatal Illusions is chilling, action-packed suspense that will keep readers moored right up until the very last page!”

Andrea Boeshaar, author and speaker

“Adam Blumer’s debut novel is compelling and riveting, with a cast of well-defined characters and a plot as tight and action-packed as any best-selling thriller on bookstore shelves today. Fatal Illusions contains enough twists to keep even Harry Houdini impossibly bound! I can’t wait to see what else this author has up his sleeve!”

Thomas Phillips, author of The Molech Prophecy

“Every now and then I find an author whose voice I immediately fall in love with. Adam Blumer is one of those authors. In Fatal Illusions he weaves a tale so spellbinding and gripping, I couldn’t wait to turn the next page. With characters I could identify with, a killer who had me looking over my shoulder, and an ending full of twists and surprises . . . just like that, I’m an Adam Blumer fan!”

Mike Dellosso, author of The Hunted and Scream

Fatal Illusions is a heart-thumping novel that not only kept me flipping pages, but impressed me with the Christian values it portrayed. Mystery reading at its best!”

February 26, 2009

Dear Reader,

Adam BlumerOnly thirty-six days left until the release of Fatal Illusions on March 31! I’ve experienced several blessings since Jan. 19, when many of you responded to my Count Your Blessings Book Giveaway and sent me inspiring stories about how God has been working in your lives. Thank you for sharing your heart-warming stories. God is indeed at work, and I think it’s always important to remember that fact. Then when the tough times come, memories of His goodness help us keep the right perspective.

Pray for My Dad

Speaking of tough times, my family has been going through the fire since Jan. 28, when doctors diagnosed my dad with brain cancer. Brain surgery this past Sunday, Feb. 22, in Milwaukee went without a hitch, and Dad has already been released and is doing surprisingly well. Praise God! Please pray for my dad and my family during this time. Our desire, of course, is that Dad would be healed and that the Lord would be glorified through this trial. I’ll be posting regular updates here for those who are interested. more…

Praise the Savior ye who know Him,
Who can tell how much we owe Him,
Let us gladly render to Him,
Al we have and are.

Just wanted to say to every one who has prayed written, and encouraged us so in the Lord. I am out of the hospital and just Praising the LORD.

One of our sons compared my length of hospital stay to that of an appendectomy. Our surgeon was elated with my bounce back and very elated with the success of 90% of the tumor taken with no collateral damage. So much for an inoperable tumor. Praise the LORD. more…

The campus bookstore book buyer of my alma mater, Bob Jones University (where I graduated in 1991 with a BA in print journalism), recently contacted me with exciting news. He is interested in the release of Fatal Illusions and plans to sell the novel at the campus bookstore. Here’s a link to the novel at the campus bookstore Web site, where customers can pre-order it at a special rate of $10.50 (not including shipping and handling).

A couple of my writing professors have also agreed to help spread the word on campus.

Dear Praying Friends,

Mom and Dad met with an oncologist (tumor specialist) and radiologist today at the Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. (Special thanks to my sister, Andrea, for driving them there from her home in Madison.) The day was long but encouraging.

Doctors want to operate on Dad on Sunday, Feb. 22, and remove at least half if not all of his brain tumor. They feel confident that they can perform surgery without too much risk. Dad may suffer some minor side effects like numbness to his left side or some impairment to his vision. (They say that the tumor has already caused some damage to his vision.) While in surgery, the surgeon is hoping to insert some wafers of chemo or packets of radiation into what’s left of Dad’s tumor to zap what’s left. This technique has often been effective. The doctors said they operated on another man with the same cancer; that was three years ago, and he is doing well. Others they have operated on, however, have not responded as well. You just have to wait and see. The doctor looked my dad in the eye and said, “If you were my dad, I’d tell him to have this surgery.” more…

I wrote this yesterday from the hospital and e-mailed it to the Blumer family mailing list:

Dear family,

I am writing to you from a waiting room at the hospital. We talked to the doctor a short while ago after Dad’s biopsy. Here is what we know:

Dad does have cancer. It’s called a meninglioma. On a scale of 1 to 4 (4 being the most aggressive), Dad has a 3 and possibly a 4 (further tests will determine whether it’s a 4). They are giving him about 13 months with chemo and radiation. The doctors do not feel comfortable with removing the tumor, which is about 5 centimeters in size.

However, there is some good news. This type of cancer did not originate from anywhere else in his body, and the rest of his body (as far as tests show now) is clean. Also, this type of cancer is typically self-contained, which means it doesn’t usually spread to other parts of the body. So what he has should be all there is, and it probably won’t spread. more…
